Job Title: Captain
Pay Rate: Compensation to correspond with experience
Job Type: Full time - Seasonal (May - October OR June - September)
The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on safety and overall customer satisfaction and will thrive in a busy and exciting work environment.
The dive season runs from May through October. Candidates should be prepared for long hours during the peak season (July/August) but much more flexible hours during the shoulder seasons. Candidates should expect to work weekends and holidays throughout the dive season.
Duties include:
- Training on and operating any of the 10 vessels in the Divers Den fleet as qualified
- Delivering safety briefings and dive site briefings
- Scuba Diving, snorkeling and scenic tours are offered
- General boat maintenance and upkeep in the cleanliness of your vessel
- Working closely with other captains and management on a constant basis to ensure smooth operations on the water and in the harbor
- Pump out and fueling (gas dock) of your vessel when required
Qualifications:
- Masters Limited <60GT Ticket
- Current Marine First Aid and Marine Medical
- Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills
Required Abilities:
- Standing and walking for long periods of time, lifting more than 50 lbs
- All team members must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills
- Working within different temperature ranges in outdoor environments
*Bilingualism is an asset, especially French.
*Asset but not required - previous dive boat experience and/or being a certified diver
Those candidates with boating experience (or currently hold their SVOP) looking to acquire their Masters ticket are welcome to apply, but priority will be given to those already holding their ticket.
The location is in scenic Tobermory, Ontario where the clear waters draw a diverse group of divers and snorkelers. Tobermory was listed as one of the 25 Top Travel Destinations in the World in 2021!
